HearID General Software FAQ

Q: I got an error message: "System Error [53] - File not found: measure.dll".

Image of Error: HearID+DP System Error (DPOAE_Init) 53 - File not found: measure.dll

A: The PC-card drivers are not installed properly. You have either installed an "Application Only" version of the software, or you inserted the card prior to the software installation. Use your Software CD to maintain your current installation and install/reinstall the drivers.

Q: I got an error message: "System Error [53] - File not found: rdser.dll".

A: The PC-card drivers are not installed properly. You have either installed an "Application Only" version of the software, or you inserted the card prior to the software installation. Use your Software CD to maintain your current installation and install/reinstall the drivers.

Q: The PC-card is not shown as "HearID" or shown with "!" in the device manager under "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers". What should I do?

A: The PC-card was inadvertently inserted into the computer before installing the software and card driver. To fix: while the PC-card is plugged into the computer, uninstall the PC-card. In the device manager, remove any additional devices listed like "multimedia controller" marked with an "!" that show up under "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers", but are not functional and not related to any real device in your computer. Then reinstall the driver software from the device manager.

Q: Which patient database am I using / where can I find my patient database?

A: The name of the database is located in the bottom right of the main window. The full path to each database is listed in the HearID.ini file, located in C:\Program Folders\HearID\ (assuming a default installation).

Q: How do I change the Company name printed on the report?

A: You will need to request a new Activation Key (a form is available under Support). You must have a login to request an Activation Key.

Q: The measurement icons and menu items are not available (grayed out.)

A: You must first create a patient record or select an existing patient before you can perform a measurement. If you have already created a patient, but still do not have access to the measurement icons, will need to re-install the PC-card drivers.

Q: When I press ‘F1’ or click on the ‘Help’ Menu, nothing happens.

A: The User’s Manual is in PDF format. If you do not have Adobe® Reader installed on your machine, you can get a free copy at Adobe’s web site: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.

Q: How do I determine the version of the PC-card drivers?

A: The PC-card driver version can be found by double-clicking on the card as seen in the ‘Device Manager.’

Q: Which version of the software is installed on my machine?

A: Choose the ‘About’ option from the ‘Help’ Menu. A window will open that contains the version and module information.

Q: Can I use a virus scanner while HearID is running?

A: Some users have reported intermittent measurement errors that were traced back to a virus scanner. You should be able to safely run real-time virus protection at the same time as data collection with HearID, but measurement errors may occur if a scheduled disk scan runs (depending on scheduled priority) during data collection. The disk scan may interrupt/timeout the data collection. Solution: schedule disk scans during times when the laptop is not being used for data collection.
